Trip to Elephant Mountain

Last Wednesday, 2015/12/16, since I did not have class and an alumnus, Ted Chan, also did not have class (he teaches writing computer games in a university), we decided to go and visit Taipei's Elephant Mountain. This place is well-known even among foreigners, especially the young, as a place to go for a good exercise (mountain climbing), but also for its spectacular view of Taipei's iconic building 101 and its surroundings.

From the Taipei main station, we took the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi (red) line. The last station is the Elephant Mountain. And from there we walked to the foot of the Elephant Mountain which is not far away. From there, we started our ascent. Elephant Mountain is just 200 meter high, but climbing it is a good exercise. It has many pathways. We decided to go first to the highest peak. When you reach the Six Giant Rocks then you are almost there.

It was unfortunate that on Wednesday we had a cold front coming from Siberia and passing by China. The cold weather was definitely a good time to climb a mountain in Taipei. But Taipei was blanketed with a very thick haze. The cold front did not only bring cold air but also brought along the polluted air from China. So I could not get a very clear picture of the Taipei 101 and its surrounding.

The last picture I took in the Elephant Mountain was a wild bird who happened to just flew down along the path. Beautiful!

Once we came down from the Elephant Mountain, we walked to Vie Show Cinemas near the Taipei 101, which is really very near. We took our lunch at a Japanese fast food restaurant called Don Show Buri. It was a very good lunch. And for dessert, we indulged ourselves with the delicious Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
